DRDO Chandipur is the first defence experiment station establishment before independence. Many nuclear, subsonic, supersonic, hypersonic missiles have been test fired from the ITR (Integrated Testing Range), like Prithvi, Agni and Shaurya, Akash, Nag, Barak and Brahmos. DRDO is India’s largest and most diverse research organisation with a network of 52 laboratories, which are engaged in developing defence technologies covering various fields, like aeronautics, armaments, electronics, combat engineering, life science, materials, various type of missiles, radars and naval systems. Hyderabad, Delhi, Bangalore, Pune, Chandipur, Chandigarh etc are among them.
DRDO – INTIGRATED TESTING RANGE
Defence Research & Development Organisation is an agency under Ministry of Defence. DRDO dedicatedly working towards enhancing self reliance in Defence Systems and undertakes design & development leading to production of world class weapon systems and equipment in accordance with the expressed needs and the qualitative requirements laid down by the three services.
DRDO provides benefits to the society and contributing to the nation buliding and making India prosperous by establishing world-class science and technology. Integrated Testing Range of Chandipur is the oldest establishment of DRDO which is situated on the coast of Bay of Bengal. It was established by a Government Order on May 30, 1895. The first activity of firing took place on 07 Nov 1895. A number of intellectual persons played a key role in getting the sanction. Capt RH Mahon, Lt Col R Wace and Maj Gen A Walker are among them. The establishment started functioning in 1896.Capt RT Moore, was the first Proof Officer. With this new setup, The quality assurance was separated from the production with the new set up.After that it has had a wide growth It was brought under the aegis of DRDO in the year 1958.
BRAHMOS MISSILE TESTING
BRAHMOS supersonic cruise missile is one of the deadliest and fastest cruise missile in the world. Brahmos has been developed Brahmos Aerpspace, it’s a Jv between India’s DRDO and Russia’s NPO Mashinostroyeniya. It has been successfully test fired many times from Inigrated Testing Range of Chandipur. A missile flies during strategic command and staff exercises Center-2019 at Donguz shooting range near The Integrated Test Range missile testing facility is located on the island. The island was originally named after English commandant. Name of island was Lieutenant Hugh Wheeler which was named after English commandment. It was renamed to honour the late Indian President Dr. Abdul Kalam on 4 September 2015. The journey to this place is worth remembering.
CHANDIPUR BEACH TOUR
Chandipur is a beach in the district of Balasore in the state of Odisha, India. The beach is located on the shore of Bay of Bengal and is approximately 16 kilometers from the main city of Baleswar.It is the only beach in the eastern India. The beach is unique in a way that the sea recedes up to five km daily at low tide and returns during high tide which happens twice a day offering wonderful sight. Chandipur beach can be submerged at high tide. It is listed by Lonely Planet (world’s renowned travel expert) as one of world’s most unusual beaches.
