GAJAPATI – Maharaja Sri Krushna Chandra Gajapati Narayan Deo

Paralakhumundi Palace

Gajapati District has been established in 1992 after separated from Ganjam. Named after Maharaja Shri Krushna Chandra Gajapati Narayan Dev (the first prime minister of the state) for it’s contribution in the formation of a seperate state, and the inclusion of paralakhemundi  estate in odisha.

The tribals form the majority of the population of gajapati district and so agriculture generated the highest revenue there. Saora Tribes consists of the largest group there and the lanjia saora is considered as the most primitive in the district.

As all the others districts, gajapati is also a blend of serene, scenic and sacred countanance.  And also the famous cuisine of the district is rajma chawal, aloo paratha and chole bhature (doesn’t this sounds tastyyyy!!!)

Tourist Attractions:

Chandragiri – this place is located in lobarsing gram panchayat of mohona block. Place is noted for the buddhist monastery which was inagurated by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and is a home to Tibetian refugees. The Monastery famously known as Jirang Monastery and its biggest in south Asia.

Gandahati Waterfall has named after a large elephant population inhabited here (which is no more).  This Beautiful waterfall surrounded by flora and fauna some of them are sai, piasal, dharua, amla,harid, karanja, arjun, etc an leopard, elephant, sambar, wild boar, barking deer, porcupine, peacock, golden orioles cuckoo etc., respectively.

Mankodadiya Waterfall- Also known for it’s beautiful waterfall. People from far and near comes here for picnic and it’s awe-inspiring silence.

Mahendragiri – it is the second highest peak of odisha and is famous for it’s mythological, religious, historical, archaeological, ethical, ecological tourist pint of views.

Brundaban Palace- Famously known as “BN Palace” is a historical monument and was a erstwhile summer palace of Maharaja of Paralakhemundi. Brundaban Palace located on the banks of Mahendratanaya River and is surrounded by thick teak trees.

How to reach:

By Rail-  the nearest railway station is palasa in andhra pradesh.

By Road- it is approximately 300kms from bhubaneshwar through nh16.

Reach By Air –  the nearest airpot is biju patnaik international airport, bhubaneshwr which is also 300kms.
