Ramachandi Temple

Known to be more ancient than the sun temple of Konark, Ramachandi temple is the presiding deity of Konark. Though it is not that important from the architectural point of view but it is one of the famous Shakti peeth of Puri.

History

Though only the remains of the collapsed broken walls and throne have only left, but it is believed that Kalapahad, a Hindu Brahmin who converted himself to Islam was a rebel and vowed to destroy all Hindu temples in the 17th century.

After destroying the Sun temple he then came for Ramachandi temple but before entering there Goddess Ramachandi came dressed as a Maluni i.e., servant and asked him to wait outside the door till she brings water for the Goddess.  After waiting for a long time for Maluni he went inside the temple alone and saw the empty throne he became frustrated and thought that Maluni took the deity with herself so he followed her and after reaching the banks of Kushabhadra river he saw that the deity is flowing in the middle of the river but as the river was outpouring he couldn’t reach there and so he returned.

It is also said that after this incident Goddess Ramachandi came in the dream of a priest and asked him to build a temple o the bank of the river. Tourists from different parts of India come here and seek blessing s from Goddess Ramachandi and enjoy the scenic beauty of the river.

How to Reach:

Ramachandi is around 80kms from Bhubaneswar and 25kms from Puri. Cab and Autos are easily available from Puri and Bhubaneswar and other parts of Odisha.
