Inhabited by over 22,000 people, Bhuban village in Dhenkanal district is the largest village of Asia. Bhubaban is a NAC under which a large numbers of villages depend upon. It is well known for its brass and metal products. Apart from metal artisians there are hundereds of shops in markets like Nua Bazaar, Kali Bazaar, Ganesh Bazaar, Durga Bazaar, as busniess and cultivation are the main activities of the people to earn a living. Birthplace of Shaid Baji Rout, “the youngest martyr” of India wa shot at Nilakanthapur in Bhuba in the year 1938.
Fairs & Festivals of Bhuban
Situated on the bank of Bramhagiri river, Bhuban has many beautiful scenery along with a pleasant climate. It has a very famous Lord Budheswar temple located at the bank of the river. Bhuban is famous for festivals like Balada Yatra (Bullock festival) and Dusserah puja. The “Aarisa Pitha” is a prominent sweet dish prepared at homes during festivals.
Industries Around the Village
Bhuban is situated in a radius of about 90 km from many major power plants (Kaniha NTPC and Talcher NTPC) and so is known as the idustrial hub of Angul. Big showrooms such as Bajaj Automobiles, Hero Honda & TVS is doing quite a busniess nearby. The Indian Oil and Bharat petroleum serves the road transportation. Bhuban also has a 100% successful rate in the herbal treatment of various liver diseases and jaundice, a practice carried out by Ghasiram Agarwalla and family from about last 70-80 years.
Educational Institutions
Several schools and High school education units are set up in the village to provide quality education to the children. Baji Rout Memorial College & Bhuban Women’s College are also providing degree courses to drive out illeteracy as much as possible. Sri Aurobindo Integral Education Centre also provides hostel facilities to students coming from outside the village.
Life Style of Locals
There are not many accomodation options avaiblable in the village. People usually make a quick stop here to enjoy the scenic beauty and have a quick snack on the way to the nearby cities. Food is not much of deal here. People mostly eat food made of rice and wheat flour. Though, there are several hotels set up where one can get a taste of various cuisines. The traditional Odia, Chinese and South Indian food is popular among the people here.
Social committes are one big talk of the village. Various social organisations such as Rama Mandir Puja Committee, Mahila Sangrami Morcha, Satya Sai Seva Anusthana, etc. These committes organize frequent activities all year long. They also have clubs managing various age groups.
All in all, Bhuban is a beautiful blend of a village and a town life.
