KENDRAPARA – Fusion of Ancient & Modern Odisha

Kendrapara is the baby of CUTACK because is was created from the Cuttack District itself. It is believed that Lord Balram killed kendrasura here and then married his daughter Tulasi and settled here.  So now you must understand where the name kendrapara came for?

Almost 70% of the income is because of cultivation but due to frequent natural calamities like flood, cyclone, drought makes difficult for the farmers to earn their lving. But guess what everytime the people stand strong and faces the difficulty with utmost strength and comes back stronger.

People of odisha has immense love for their culture and heritage. Some of the most famous festivals celebrated are-

  • Dola Yatra:  This fesivatal is celebrated 5days before Holi as “Panchu Dola”.
  • Jhulan Yatra:  It is celebrated in the Bhadra month in akmost all the temples of  Kendrapara District.
  • Rath Yatra: Celebrated on “Asadha Sukla Dwitiya” is a mass festival of odisha. It is celebrated for 9 days. The name of the ratha is “Brahma Taladhwaja” and is the world’s highest ratha (65 feet tall).
  • Gaja Laxmi Puja:  This is the second mass festival after Rath Yatra celebrated from past 60years. People from differenct caste, tribe, and religion comes to take part in it.
  • Olakana Melana: This festival is celebrated at olakana village situated at the end of Derabish block. This festival was started by the king of AUL and was made famous by it’s successor.   
  • Debasnan Purnima: Jyesta Purnima is lso known as Debasanan Purnima. It is celebrated in all the temples but especially at Shri Baldev Jew temple.

PLACES OF INTEREST-

  • BHITARKANIKA NATIONAL PARK :Covered with mangrove forests and saline waters it is the world famous place for crocodile breeding. It is a home to over  215 species of birds including winter migratory birds of Europe and Central Asia. Birds migrate 1000 of miles to escape from the harsh winter of  Ladakh, Himalayan region, Mansarovar, Siberia, Mongolia, Russia, Iraq, Afghanistan etc.
  • SHRI BALDEV JEW TEMPLE-  This temple is situated in icchapur, 5kms from the main city. Lord Baldev is the main deity worshipped along with his brother and sister.
  • BATIGHAR (LIGHT HOUSE)This is the first lighthouse which was established in the eastern coast of India.
  • GAHIRMATHA–  Located within the close vicinity of Bhitar Kanika national park, this is the only Turtle Sanctuary.
  • HUKITOLAIt is situated on the Jambu Island in the Bay of Bengal in Kendrapara district. This was built by the Britishers in 19th century and it attracts lots of students, scholars and history lovers throughout the year for its scenic location and historical significance.
  • AUL PALACE– It is an ancient palace spread over 40 acrs of land famous for the structures built inside and near the palace.
  • KANIKA PALACE-  This palace was constructed by Rajendra Narayan Bhanja deo, King of Kanika withing 4acres of land with the height of approx 75feet.

OH AND YES DO NOT FORGET TO TRY RASABALI(DESSERT)!!!

HOW TO REACH-

BY ROAD:  Different tourist places of Kendrapara is well connected by road.

BY RAIL: The nearest railway station is cuttack which is almost 65 kms.

BY AIR:  The nearest airport is Biju Patnaik International Airport which is 95 kms.
