Observed in the Kartika month of the year in which there are six days of ‘Panchaka’ in lieu of five, Nagarjuna Vesha is the occasion where Lord Jagannatha and Shree Balabhadra are dressed like Nagarjuna, a military general, on the extra day.

Astrologer Baikuntha Nath Nayak of Samanta Chandrasekhar almanac said that the Nagarjuna Besha of the Srimandir deities is scheduled to be organized this year on the 27th of November after a gap of 25 long years. The Besha was last celebrated on 16th November 1994.
Mythological Belief
As per the mythological information, this Besha is celebrated in the memory of killing of a khyatriya king named Sahasrarjun, also known as Kritibirya, by Brahmarshi Parasuram or the battle between Arjuna and his son Nagarjuna.
The Attire (Besha)
The items used in this Besha are cane made handia, dhala, moustache, beard, knife, chopper, tiger skin, gold sribhuja, sri payar, garland made of tiger nails, conch shell, chakra, hala and mushala.
This Besha is unique and the gathering at Puri for the darshan of this Besha is recorded as the highest.
